What We Believe

Therapy Is Not a Last Resort.

Many people wait years before seeking support — either because they believe their problems are not serious enough, or because they are not sure what therapy actually involves. At Haven, we want to change that.

Therapy is a structured, evidence-based process. It is not about being told what to do, or reliving painful memories without support. It is a collaborative exploration of what is not working — and a practical framework for changing it.

How We Work

Our Approach to Therapy

We do not follow a one-size-fits-all model. Every client receives a personalised formulation and a tailored treatment plan.

01

Initial Consultation

A 50-minute session to understand what brings you to therapy, your history, and your goals. No diagnosis. No pressure. Just a thorough, compassionate conversation. You also get to assess whether your therapist is the right fit.

02

Assessment & Formulation

Your therapist creates a personalised formulation — a shared understanding of what is contributing to your difficulties and why. This guides everything that follows and is revisited as therapy progresses.

03

Therapy Begins

Weekly or fortnightly sessions using the approach best suited to your needs — CBT, EMDR, ACT, schema therapy, or an integrative blend. Between sessions, you may be invited to try exercises or notice patterns.

04

Progress & Ending

We review progress regularly and adjust the plan as needed. Therapy ends when you have met your goals and feel confident sustaining your progress independently. Endings are planned, collaborative, and gradual.

Therapeutic Modalities We Use

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

NICE-recommended. Addresses the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

EMDR

Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing — highly effective for trauma and PTSD.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Third-wave CBT helping clients develop psychological flexibility and values-aligned action.

Schema Therapy

Addresses deep-rooted patterns (schemas) formed in early life that drive current difficulties.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Reduces shame and self-criticism using compassion science and practice.

CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I)

The gold-standard psychological treatment for chronic sleep difficulties.

FAQ

Before You Reach Out

If something is causing you distress — or is getting in the way of living the life you want — therapy is likely to be helpful. You do not need to be in crisis. Many clients come to therapy to understand themselves better, manage stress, or work through long-standing patterns. The initial consultation is a low-commitment way to find out.

It depends on what you are working with. Focused CBT for a specific anxiety can be effective in 8–12 sessions. More complex difficulties — such as long-term trauma, personality-level patterns, or chronic depression — typically benefit from longer-term work of 6–12 months or more. Your therapist will give you a realistic timeframe in the initial consultation.

Yes — with two narrow exceptions. We are required to break confidentiality if there is serious risk of harm to yourself or another person, or if ordered to do so by a court. In all other circumstances, everything discussed remains strictly between you and your therapist. We explain this fully in our initial consent process.

Absolutely. The therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of outcome — we want you to work with someone you trust. If your initial consultation does not feel right, let us know and we will match you with another member of the team at no extra charge.

Yes. All of our therapists offer online sessions via a secure, GDPR-compliant video platform. Many clients find online therapy equally effective and appreciate the flexibility it provides. In-person sessions are available at our London clinic.

Please give at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled within 48 hours will be charged at 50% of the session fee. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours or not attended will be charged in full. This is standard practice and protects your therapist's time.
